Asus’ new 27-inch OLED gaming monitor has a heatsink to keep cool

Asus is one of the many brands looking to make small OLED gaming monitors for 2023. Acer and LG took aim. Well, the model Asus was teasing Asus ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM. As for the screen, what it offers matches the rest. It’s a 27-inch, 1440p, matte-coated OLED running at a fast refresh rate of 240Hz and a response time of 0.03ms. But there is one big difference. It’s a heatsink to keep it cool and extend its life.

Asus says it has a heatsink that, along with vents, pulls heat away from the panel, lowering temperatures by up to 5 degrees compared to similar models.

OLEDs are not known to overheat until they shut down, but using a heatsink may reduce the risk of OLED burn-in over time. This has always been a concern with OLED, but it’s less of a concern now that most monitors and panels already have multiple features for dimming, shifting, or turning off pixels. . According to Asus, the PG27AQDM has a peak brightness of 1,000 nits when displaying an HDR image that occupies 3% of the full screen. That’s the same number that LG’s 27-inch UltraGear OLED shoots without a heatsink, so it’s probably best to expect long-term benefits from a heatsink rather than a short-term upgrade.

Asus claims to have designed display algorithms that focus on providing even brightness, not giving pixels more power than they need for display. In addition to efficiency, we aim to have the same brightness across the board, even with multiple windows open. I’ll have to see how this works during testing. Unfortunately, prices weren’t shared and Asus hasn’t confirmed which ports are included here.
